Therapy Basics and More…

As I begin working with new clients, there are practices that I suggest and areas that I request individuals and couples pay attention to, which I think of as the therapeutic basics.

These aids to healing, change and growth are available to anyone who wants these things – and who doesn’t right? Not anyone that comes to me for therapy… but you don’t have to be in therapy to get into these good habits. Although, if you are in therapy or thinking about starting, then your healing, change and growth will be accelerated through these practices. By the way, it’s worth mentioning that to practice is a verb as in an action word, which means that doing these things once or twice doesn’t work – you have to practice regularly. The therapeutic basics are, as follows – in no particular order:

  • Start journalling
  • Do some exercise every day or at least 3 times a week
  • Have a healthy diet with lots of fresh vegetables and eliminate processed foods
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Practice good sleep hygiene
  • Learn how to meditate (I always recommend the Headspace app for beginners)
  • Reduce stress and toxins

I promise you that if you pay attention to these areas and develop regular practices, then you will change your life with or without therapy. There are also practices and ways of being that will further amplify your growth, especially if you are having an awakening or are open to the idea of evolving. These include:

  • Take full responsibility for your life
  • Develop good boundaries
  • Learn to feel safe in your body
  • Cultivate a gratitude practice
  • Find a way to connect to your Higher Power, Source or God/Goddess
  • Spend time in nature

Finally, if you want to up-level the love, sex and relationship experiences, then learn how to be consciously connect with others. Whether you bring consciousness to dating, a current relationship or the ending of one, being conscious will always help you come from a place of love and humanity, so that you can look after yourself and respect the other. Here are some ways that you can learn how to be conscious in love, sex and relationships:

  • Envision your desired relationship status and commit to achieving your desires
  • Love, accept and respect yourself and expect that from others
  • Discover how Tantra might help you heal, connect and thrive
  • Be more in your body through sound, movement, dance, breath and energy work
  • Learn how to be empathic and be mindfully kind and compassionate
  • Learn how to communicate what you think, feel, need, want and don’t want – and this applies to sex too – learn how to talk about sex!

In short, consciousness will help you to become ‘The One’, call in the ‘The One’ or let go of ‘The One’ who was but is no more…
