Therapeutic yoga presence and sound healing

A day to slow down, soften and surrender.

In a world that asks us to keep doing, thinking and being productive, Turning Inward is an invitation to do something different.

This is a day to get out of your head and into your body, to rest deeply and reconnect with yourself—so you can return to everyday life feeling more grounded, centred, present and able to listen to what your body truly needs.

Slow down. Become still. Listen inwardly. Allow the body to soften and discover what becomes possible when there is nothing you need to achieve.

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Florence House, between the South Downs and the sea, this nourishing one-day retreat brings together therapeutic yoga, breathwork, fascia flow, presence, deep rest and sound healing.

What is therapeutic yoga? Read on the Wolfblog.

Throughout the day, you will also have access to Florence House’s beautiful yurt—a peaceful place to step away, contemplate, journal, reflect or simply spend some quiet time on your own.

An inward experience of yoga

Drawing on the ancient wisdom of Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga alongside contemporary trauma-informed and somatic approaches, Fraya will gently guide you beyond notions of yoga as simply physical exercise.

Read about Pantanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga on the Wolfblog

Yoga becomes an inward practice and guiding philosophy: a way of becoming more present to your body, your inner experience and yourself.

Throughout the day, we will explore themes of freedom and choice, anchoring into safety, awakening the witness, cultivating equanimity and opening to a heart-centred connection.

During the day you will be invited to experience:

  • Gentle therapeutic yoga and embodied nervous-system practices such as vagus nerve stimulation
  • Breathwork, meditation, stillness and presence
  • An introduction to the inward journey through Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga
  • Practices for cultivating the witness and greater equanimity
  • Yoga Nidra and the art of deep rest
  • Space to pause, journal, reflect and simply be
  • Quiet time in Florence House’s yurt
  • Sound healing with chimes and therapeutic sound
  • A deeply relaxing Peter Hess® Vibration Massage experience with singing bowls, offered by guest practitioner Maja Dethloff

This is not a conventional yoga class

The day is gentle, spacious and invitational. It is suitable for people with different levels of yoga experience, including none at all.

You do not need to be “good at yoga.” Turning Inward is much less about the asanas—the physical postures, which are just one of yoga’s eight limbs—and much more about the inward aspects of yoga.

The emphasis will be on listening to your body, honouring choice and discovering practices that support safety, presence and a more intimate relationship with yourself.

This is a trauma-informed day and may particularly speak to you if life has felt busy, stressful or overwhelming; if you find it difficult to stop; if you have been living with the effects of stress or trauma; or if you simply long for more stillness, rest and space to reconnect with yourself.

Come alone, with a friend or with your partner.

Slow down. Soften. Surrender.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous yoga experience?

No. Turning Inward is suitable for people with different levels of yoga experience, including complete beginners. The day focuses less on achieving physical postures and more on breathwork, meditation, embodied awareness, choice, presence, rest and the inward dimensions of yoga, – drawing on Pantanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga (the asanas [physical postures] and pranayama [breathing] are only two of eight limbs).

Do I need to be physically flexible?

No. You do not need to be flexible or “good at yoga.” The practices will be gentle and invitational, and you will be encouraged to listen to your own body throughout the day.

Is the day trauma informed?

Yes. Fraya’s approach is trauma informed and emphasises choice, consent, nervous-system awareness and responding to the needs of your own body. You will be invited rather than required to participate in each practice. Fraya has 20 years of working with trauma and is post-traumatic growth and healing orientated. Fraya’s way of working is also neurodivergent-affirming as she acknowledges the intersection of neurodivergence and trauma in alignment with Gabor Maté’s viewpoint.

Can I come on my own?

Yes. You are very welcome to attend alone. You can also come with a friend or partner, and there is a reduced price of £250 for two people booking together.

What is included in the price?

The price includes the full retreat day from 9.00am until 7.00pm, all teaching and practices offered by Fraya, use of the yurt as a quiet space, a nourishing vegetarian lunch, refreshments throughout the day, and Maja’s closing Vibration Massage experience with singing bowls.

Can I opt out during the day and simply rest?

Absolutely! There are many beautiful areas of Florence House to rest and relax, to read and sleep, to walk in the grounds or to the beach, or to chill out in the yurt. Let Fraya know at any point if you’d like to take some time out and she can advise you how to make the most of the day. The purpose of the day is to rest and nourish your whole system, and that will mean different things to different people.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

Yes. Florence House can accommodate special dietary requirements when notified in advance. You will be able to provide this information when registering.
